Ingredients

Scale

Seafood

  • 1 pound fresh shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 pound crab legs

Vegetables

  • 1 pound new potatoes, small and tender
  • 2 ears corn on the cob, cut into halves
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • Fresh lemon wedges (for garnish)
  • Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Broth and Seasonings

  • 8 cups water
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 2 teaspoons paprika (natural)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • Natural gelling agent (optional, such as pectin or agar), for thickening broth

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Broth: In a large pot, combine 8 cups of water with apple cider vinegar, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), garlic cloves, paprika, cayenne pepper, bay leaves, black pepper, and salt. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil to infuse the broth with savory and spicy flavors.
  2. Cook the Potatoes and Corn: Add the new potatoes and corn on the cob to the boiling broth first. Let them simmer until tender but still firm, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  3. Add the Seafood: Gently place the shrimp and crab legs into the simmering broth. Cook until the shrimp turns pink and crab legs are heated through, usually 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Thicken the Broth (Optional): If you prefer a thicker broth, sprinkle in the natural gelling agent while stirring continuously until it reaches your desired consistency.
  5. Drain and Serve: Use a large strainer or slotted spoon to lift the cooked ingredients out of the pot. Pile them onto a large serving platter or a newspaper-lined table for an authentic presentation. Garnish with fresh lemon wedges and sprinkle fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh shrimp and crab for the best texture and flavor.
  • Do not overcook seafood to keep it juicy and tender.
  • Adjust cayenne pepper or add fresh chili peppers to increase spice level.
  • Prep all ingredients beforehand for a smooth cooking process.
  • Serve family style on a communal table for a fun, shared meal experience.
