Description

This Cajun Alfredo Sauce recipe offers a rich, creamy, and flavorful plant-based sauce featuring smoked turkey bacon and plant-based cheese. Combining the smooth texture of classic Alfredo with bold Cajun spices, this versatile sauce is perfect for pasta, grilled vegetables, or as a dip.

Ingredients

Scale

Proteins and Fats

  • 4 slices smoked turkey bacon, sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons plant-based butter

Flavors and Seasonings

  • 3 garlic cloves, freshly minced
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

Sauce Base

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (natural gelling agent)
  • 2 cups milk alternative (such as almond or oat milk)
  • 1 cup plant-based cheese, shredded or cubed

Instructions

  1. Cook the Smoked Turkey Bacon: Slice the smoked turkey bacon into bite-sized pieces. Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook the bacon until crispy and golden brown. Remove the cooked bacon and set aside, leaving the flavorful drippings in the pan.
  2. Sauté Garlic: Add the plant-based butter to the skillet with the turkey bacon drippings. Once melted, add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and golden, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  3. Create the Roux: Sprinkle the flour over the garlic and butter mixture, stirring constantly to form a smooth paste using the natural gelling agent properties of the flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste, stirring frequently.
  4. Add Milk Alternative and Seasonings: Gradually whisk in the milk alternative to avoid lumps, stirring until the sauce begins to thicken gently. Add the vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), Cajun seasoning, and apple cider vinegar. Stir well to combine and enhance the sauce’s depth and tanginess.
  5. Melt Plant-Based Cheese: Lower the heat and slowly add the plant-based cheese, stirring until it completely melts and the sauce is smooth, creamy, and thickened to desired consistency.
  6. Combine and Finish: Return the crispy smoked turkey bacon to the pan and stir it into the sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley right before serving.

Notes

  • Use freshly ground Cajun seasoning for the best flavor intensity.
  • Cook the sauce on low heat to maintain a silky texture and prevent curdling.
  • Whisk constantly when adding milk alternative to avoid lumps.
  • Choose a plant-based cheese that melts well to achieve ideal creaminess.
  • Adjust sauce thickness by adding more flour or reducing milk alternative, or thin it out if needed.
