Description

Cheesy Potato Bake is a warm, comforting, and creamy dish combining tender sliced potatoes, melted plant-based cheese, crispy smoked turkey bacon, and flavorful sautéed onions and garlic. Enhanced with a natural gelling agent for perfect creaminess and layered with fresh herbs, this bake is ideal as a hearty main or impressive side. It’s customizable, plant-based cheese rich, and perfect for family dinners or entertaining guests.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • Potatoes (preferably starchy or Yukon Gold), peeled and thinly sliced
  • Smoked turkey bacon, diced
  • Plant-based cheese, shredded or sliced
  • Onions, chopped
  • Garlic (natural extract), minced
  • Vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Plant-based milk (full-fat preferred)
  • Natural gelling agent
  • Fresh herbs (thyme or parsley), chopped
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Peel and thinly slice the potatoes evenly to ensure consistent cooking. Chop the onions and mince the garlic. Dice the smoked turkey bacon into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Sauté the bacon and aromatics: Heat a pan over medium heat and sauté the smoked turkey bacon pieces until crispy. Remove and set aside. In the same pan, gently cook the onions and garlic until fragrant and translucent.
  3. Make the creamy sauce: In a saucepan, combine the plant-based milk, vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural), apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper. Warm gently and whisk in the natural gelling agent until the mixture thickens into a smooth creamy sauce.
  4. Layer the bake: Grease a baking dish. Arrange half of the potato slices evenly. Sprinkle half of the sautéed onions, garlic, and smoked turkey bacon on top. Add a generous layer of plant-based cheese. Repeat the layers once more, finishing with a thick layer of cheese on top.
  5. Bake to perfection: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.
  6. Rest and serve: Allow the Cheesy Potato Bake to cool for 10 minutes before slicing to let the sauce set slightly, ensuring clean, cohesive portions.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline or sharp knife to slice potatoes uniformly for even cooking.
  • Do not skip the resting time after baking to allow the dish to set.
  • Lightly season each potato layer with salt and pepper for balanced flavor.
  • Full-fat plant-based milk helps create a richer, creamier sauce.
  • Covering the bake with foil initially prevents the cheese from over-browning while allowing potatoes to cook thoroughly.
