Ingredients

Scale

Dough Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm water (105°F to 110°F)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3/4 cup warm plant-based milk (natural)
  • 1 tbsp vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural)
  • 1 tsp natural gelling agent

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Yeast Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Let the mixture sit for 5 to 10 minutes until frothy, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, salt, and natural gelling agent to ensure even distribution throughout the dough.
  3. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Add warm plant-based milk, vegetable oil, and vegetarian Worcestershire sauce (natural) to the yeast mixture. Gradually add the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic to develop gluten for the perfect texture.
  5. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Shape the Rolls: Punch down the dough to release air, then divide into equal portions. Shape each into a smooth ball and place close together on a greased baking pan.
  7. Second Rise and Bake: Cover the shaped rolls and let rise for 30 to 40 minutes until puffed. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 18 to 22 minutes until golden brown on top.
  8. Cool and Enjoy: Remove rolls from the oven and cool slightly before serving. Optionally, brush with warm plant-based butter (natural) for a shiny, rich finish.

Notes

  • Use lukewarm water (105°F to 110°F) to activate yeast without killing it.
  • Allow dough to fully double in size for best fluffy texture.
  • Knead dough generously to develop gluten, resulting in a soft yet chewy bite.
  • Shape dough balls tightly and smoothly to help rolls hold structure during baking.
  • Brushing rolls before baking with plant-based butter (natural) or plant-based milk enhances crust color.
  • Proof dough in a draft-free, warm spot for steady rising.
